In a significant development during the ongoing IPL 2025 season, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been handed a one-year ban from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The disciplinary action comes after Bosch withdrew from his commitment to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, choosing instead to join Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Lizaad Williams.
Bosch, who was selected by Peshawar Zalmi in the Diamond category during the PSL draft in January, opted to sign with Mumbai Indians in March, following Williams' injury. This decision led the PCB to serve a legal notice to Bosch, citing breach of contractual obligations. The PCB stated that Bosch had been asked to justify his withdrawal and was informed of the repercussions of his departure from the league.
The overlapping schedules of the PSL and IPL in 2025 have intensified competition for international players. The PSL runs from April 11 to May 18, while the IPL spans from March 22 to May 25. Bosch's decision to prioritize the IPL over the PSL has sparked discussions within the PCB about implementing stricter measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Despite the controversy, Bosch has expressed regret over not participating in the PSL and has accepted the one-year ban, which prohibits him from playing in the 2026 edition of the league.
Bosch's recent performances have been noteworthy. He played a pivotal role in MI Cape Town's victory in the SA20 2025, taking 11 wickets in eight matches. Additionally, he made his Test debut for South Africa in December 2024, scoring an unbeaten 81 runs in the first innings, contributing to a thrilling two-wicket win over Pakistan.
As the IPL 2025 progresses, all eyes will be on Bosch to see how he performs with Mumbai Indians amidst the backdrop of this controversy.
